About Us

Hello, and welcome to the Chas'n A Dream website. My name is Curt Carlisle. I own and operate Chas'n A Dream Guide Service. Let me begin by telling you a little about myself. I was born in Southern California. Growing up in the Sunshine State, as a young boy, I was, as you can imagine, very much into water sports. I rode Jetski's, surfed, water-skiied, and I fished in lakes and small streams - mostly for trout.

In 1983 my family and I moved to Lebanon, Oregon. What a change of scenery that was, moving from the big city to the mountains and woods. We used to do a lot of camping back then, along the local rivers and streams. I soon found out that living in the woods, as I refer to it, had advantages.

I remember the first time I ever saw a Steelhead. My family and I were camping on one of the local rivers (too many years to remember the name of the river). I was fishing from the bank when this guy walked through our camp, right next to me on the riverbank. He asked me if I would mind if he made a few casts. With my curiousity peaked, I told him, "No, go ahead..." He made about 3 or 4 cast with a brass spoon and hauled out the biggest and most beautiful fish I had ever seen in my young life. It was only about a 10 or 12 pound Steelhead, but it was a monster to me. Of course, being a young boy, I had about a million questions for this stranger. I wanted to learn anything and everything I could to land my own monster fish.

Shortly thereafter, my Uncle took me salmon fishing on one of the local rivers. On this day a miraculous thing happened that would change my life forever. I hooked and landed my first King Salmon. I remember it well, running up and down the river bank trying to keep up with this monster on the end of my line. When I finally landed it, I was hooked for life. It wasn't until a few years later that I finally hooked and landed my first Steelhead. In 1984 my family and I moved to Puyallup, Washington and I have lived in the area ever since. I love it here, water everywhere. I call it home.

Now, let me tell you a little about Chas'n A Dream Guide Service. Let me begin by explaining the name. Well, what is the American Dream? -To do something you love and get paid for doing it. That's my definition, and that is exactly what I am doing. I'm Chasing A Dream that I have had for a very long time. I have some fishing partners who will agree that when we started fishing together years ago, all I talked about was someday starting a guide service, and, so I did.

I have been an avid Salmon and Steelhead fisherman in Washington since 1984. Over those years, I have become very knowledgeable of our local species of fish. I gained this knowledge from my friends who also guide, from reading books and articles, from hours that must equal years of trial and error, and from simply talking with anglers like you during my journeys along rivers and banks. Some of my most enjoyable moments are taking new anglers out and sharing knowledge and techniques. I love giving a few helpful hints to anglers that I come across and getting to share the experience with them of either catching their first or their biggest Salmon or Steelhead.

I conduct my business out of a 23.5' Alumaweld Jet Sled powered by Mercury outboards as well as a 18' Clackacraft Drift boat. I still have a full time job so this is not my only source of income, yet. Hopefully with some hard work and determination, though, I will be doing what I love full time. My goal is to see a few more guides and boats running with Chas'n A Dream on the side of them. With our species of fish on the decline, this may be a hard goal to achieve, but hopefully with the recovery programs and educating the public we can turn things around so I can make this dream a reality. Fishing has been a long loved hobby of mine as far back as I can remember. It is hard for me to consider a job, so I know my goal will not be so hard to obtain.

I use only the best equipment and tackle, like Lamiglas Rods, G-Loomis rods, Shimano, Abu Garcia, and Penn reels, Izorline, Power Pro line, Gamakatsu hooks, and many other products too numerous to list. I am an enthusiastic and energetic person hoping to someday make a name for myself as one of the legends in this business. I have a new generation approach to running a guide service. I try to offer something different. I hate to see a boat full of people with a guide, and though they might be catching fish, they're not laughing and having a good time. Honestly that is what this is all about, having a good time. Catching fish is just a bonus. I'll try to educate you on the concepts of the different techniques we use and why they seem to work the best for me. I'll show you the river and all it's wildlife. I'll educate you on your surroundings, and I'm always willing to listen and learn something myself. I am U.S. Coast Guard Certified for your safety, and I am fully Licensed and Insured.

I would like to thank you for visiting my site and checking out Chas'n A Dream Guide Service. I look forward to fishing with you soon. I hope everyone enjoys what you see.

One more thing, if you see me on the river don't hesitate to come over and ask how we did or just say hello. I enjoy meeting new people and will always take a few moments to talk to you. Thanks again and Good Luck on all your fishing adventures. Be safe.

Sincerely,
Curt Carlisle
